5.02 Artifact Revisions

Artifact Revisions

The “Revisions” tab lists all the saved variations of the artifact content associated with a single content node. You can confirm which node is being displayed by viewing the breadcrumbs (e.g., “Node / 216196 / Revisions”) in the upper header of the page.

Revert to a Different Revision

Changing the “Current Revision” will change which revision is considered the primary content and, in turn, is displayed on the “View” tab. This primary content is what is ultimately published on the CDS Connect website.

  1. From the “Revisions” tab list, click the “Revert” button next to the revision of interest.
  2. A new copy of the revision will be made, and a new listing will appear at the top of the Revisions list.
  3. A green confirmation message will also appear at the top of the page.

Compare Selected Revisions

At times, it may be necessary to compare different versions of the artifact content. The Drupal content management system allows for a visual comparison of the content of two revisions at a time. Changes in content are highlighted. Content that has been removed will be highlighted in pink and show as struck out, while content that has been added will be highlighted in green.

  1. From the “Revisions” tab list, activate the radio buttons associated with the artifacts of interest.
  2. Click on the “Compare Selected Revisions” button at the bottom of the screen.
  3. The page will change to the content comparison using the “Visual Inline” Layout and the “Default” (Artifact Detail Page) View Mode. The word “Changes” will be appended to the title of the artifact

Note that the breadcrumbs at the top of the page confirm the primary content node (e.g., “Node / 217311”) being referenced and that you are viewing the two revisions (e.g., “View / 231191 / 231201”) using the general settings. The breadcrumbs list the artifacts being compared in sequential order, with the lower numbered revision (i.e., older artifact) listed before the higher numbered revision (i.e., the more recent revision)

The dates of the revisions and the author of the revision are listed under the “Comparing” header.

Clicking on the lower item (e.g., “08/17/2022-11:31”) will take you to the original revision. The breadcrumbs provide confirmation that you are viewing the revisions (e.g., “Revisions / 231191 / Revision of Test of Revisions from Wed, 08/17/2022 - 11:31”) associated with the appropriate node (e.g., “Node / 217311”).

Lower revision

Navigate through all the revisions sequentially, by clicking on the “Next Change” and “Previous Change” listed under the “Navigation” heading. This navigation will move you up and down the list of revisions.

Caution: Clicking on any other hyperlinked elements in the artifact itself will take you out of the comparison mode and into the content associated with the link. Return to the comparison mode by using the back button in your browser.

The comparison layout view can be changed by using the dropdown “Layout” menu.

  • Visual Inline – The default view that shows changes in the location where they occur.
  • Split Field – This layout shows a field-by-field comparison of the additions and updates, in a side-by-side format. The older revision is listed in the left column, the more recent revision in the right column. The content can be filtered to “Raw” (showing changes in source code) or “Strip Tags” (showing changes in content only).
  • Unified Fields – This layout shows how the content of each metadata field has changed over time, grouped by field. The content can be filtered to “Raw” or “Strip Tags.”
